The film Gedela Raju, starring renowned singer and music director Raghu Kunche in the title role, was released yesterday (April 24). Marking the directorial debut of Chaitanya Moturi, the film showcases Raghu Kunche not only delivering complete justice to his role as an actor but also proving his excellence as a music composer.
The non-linear screenplay chosen by the debut director—shifting back and forth in time—does create slight confusion at places. Additionally, there seem to be some compromises in casting. However, setting aside these minor drawbacks, the film remains engaging from start to finish.
The opening and climax, in particular, are highly gripping. Except for one or two, the cast has performed convincingly, blending well into their respective roles. The director certainly shows promise and has a bright future ahead.
Raghu Kunche also makes a strong statement that filmmakers need not look to other regions for powerful antagonist roles. The songs he composed for this film are deeply soulful. Especially, the track “Urike Chirugali Encheyyamantade” feels soothing and pleasant throughout. His background score further elevates the scenes, making them more impactful and emotionally engaging.
