The nephew of Michael Jackson, Jaafar Jackson, played the lead role in the film.
The story of Michael follows Michael Jackson’s life and career from 1966 to 1988, focusing on his early days with the pop band, Jackson 5, and his 1980s Bad tour.
The narration of the film is a linear starting Michael journey from Gary, Indiana with Jackson 5.Michael starts his musical journey right from the age of 8.
With his performance along with his brothers in various clubs and cities Jackson five band gets popular, during such performances popular music companies in U.S start to notice his talent.
Once Motown signs them Jackson family fortune changes and they move from a small house from Gary Indiana to a mansion in Encico California.
Once the Michael family moves to California, the rest of the story is Michael’s meteoric rise to the top to be the King of Pop and be the world number one.
In the process of becoming world number one, Michael tussles with his family/father to go solo was intense and interesting.
Important episodes like Michael innovations with the Thriller album to hire members of the gangs Crips–Bloods to appear in his music video for “Beat It” for Thriller album and his idea to air his dance videos on MTV made Thriller album broke worldwide sales records were interesting.
Michael’s accident in a Pepsi commercial advertisement, followed by a hospital episode and his world tours after recovery makes the narration interesting.
Production values are high for the film, Jaafar Jackson was perfect for the Michael Jackson role.
Jaafar is perfectly suited for the role with his mannerisms and dance moves as close as possible with Michael especially Moon Walk.
The director Antoine Fuqua stuck to a linear narration and has shown Michael’s journey from Jackson 5 till his rise to the top.
The film has not dealt with any of the famous controversies, lawsuits Jackson has dealt with pertaining to sexual child abuse, extortion, plastic surgery and financial mismanagement during his stay in Michael estate and Neverland Ranch in California.
The film ends with the Michael Jackson 1980 Bad tour in London with a hint for a possible sequel.
The sequel may possibly deal with his personal controversies, fall from glory and his shocking controversial death at age 50.
