Increasing Respect for South Indian Directors

We know that even in the past, Telugu directors like Dasari, Raghavendra Rao, and Bapayya made history by creating sensational hits in Hindi. After them, directors like Priyadarshan, Mani Ratnam, Prabhu Deva, and Murugadoss left an indelible mark on Bollywood.

However, after films like “Baahubali, KGF, and Pushpa,” the entire scenario changed. The fact that a Telugu director created sensations with “Kabir Singh and Animal,” and that a Tamil director shattered records with “Pathaan,” significantly increased respect for South Indian directors in Bollywood. With Chandoo Mondeti’s “Karthikeya-2” and Prasanth Varma’s “Hanuman” dominating the box office there, the situation has reached a point where senior Bollywood directors are openly advising, “Learn from South directors.”

As a result, all Bollywood superstars are now eager to collaborate with South Indian directors. If Salman’s “Sikandar,” directed by Murugadoss, releases on the 30th of this month and creates a sensation, a strange situation may arise where a majority of Bollywood directors will have to settle for web series.
