For thousands of commuters travelling between Uppal, Narapally and the Warangal Highway, the Uppal–Narapally elevated corridor has become a symbol of Hyderabad’s long-running infrastructure delays. Now, Roads & Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has set a firm target: the long-pending flyover should be completed and opened to traffic by October 31, 2026.
But with October only weeks away, a question is increasingly being asked by citizens: Will this deadline really be met?
The project, launched in 2018 with an original three-year completion target, has already faced years of delays. Issues including land acquisition and construction-related difficulties have contributed to the prolonged wait. In June 2026, the eight-year delay had even become the subject of widespread social-media criticism and memes.
A deadline that has raised expectations
Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has now directed officials and the construction agency to accelerate the project and complete the corridor by October 31. Recent reports indicate that the project is around 60% complete, meaning a substantial portion of the work still remains.
The minister’s intervention has given commuters some hope. But for people who travel through Uppal every day, announcements alone are no longer enough. They want to see visible progress on the ground.
The real problem for citizens is not just the flyover
While the elevated corridor itself is incomplete, commuters continue to face the consequences of unfinished work on the road below.
Dust, uneven surfaces, diversions, bottlenecks, construction vehicles and incomplete stretches have made daily travel particularly difficult. Two-wheeler riders are among those who bear the brunt, while motorists face long queues during peak hours.
The inconvenience is not limited to a few days or months. Residents and regular commuters have already endured years of disruption.
That is why citizens are understandably asking: if the elevated structure is expected to be completed by October, will the connecting and service roads also be ready at the same time?
October deadline: possible, but challenging
Completing the remaining work within the available time will require construction to proceed at a much faster and more consistent pace.
The authorities have indicated that work is being accelerated, with construction being monitored more closely. Reports also indicate that work on the road beneath the corridor has been given a separate completion target.
The challenge, therefore, is not simply putting the remaining flyover components in place. The project must ultimately deliver a fully usable corridor, with proper approaches, ramps, road surfaces, markings, lighting, drainage and traffic-management arrangements.
Citizens want results, not another extension
After waiting since 2018, commuters have little patience for another missed deadline.
Every new deadline creates hope, but every delay reduces public confidence. The October 31 commitment therefore carries considerable importance—not only for Uppal and Narapally residents but also for thousands of people travelling towards Warangal and the eastern parts of Hyderabad.
The government has an opportunity to demonstrate that long-pending infrastructure projects can be brought back on schedule through strong monitoring and accountability.
The final test begins now
The coming weeks will determine whether October 2026 becomes the month when Uppal finally gets relief—or another milestone added to the project’s long history of deadlines.
For citizens, the demand is simple:
Complete the flyover. Complete the roads below it. Remove the bottlenecks. Restore safe and smooth traffic movement. And most importantly, keep the October 31 promise.
After eight years of waiting, Uppal commuters are not asking for another assurance. They are asking to see the road open.
