Bharateeyudu 3: War Mode – Kamal Haasan and Shankar Set the Stage for Senapathy’s Resurgence

Nearly three decades after Bharateeyudu introduced Senapathy to Telugu audiences, and two years after Bharateeyudu 2 brought the iconic vigilante back into the present, the franchise is now preparing to reveal the story behind the man himself. The journey that began with Kamal Haasan and Shankar in 1996 has grown into a larger narrative spanning generations, with the glimpse of Bharateeyudu 3 pointing towards a compelling new chapter in Senapathy’s past. Its period setting, freedom-struggle backdrop and glimpses of the forces that shaped him have already created strong curiosity around what lies ahead.

The Bharateeyudu 3 glimpse, unveiled as part of Bharateeyudu 2, marked a striking departure from the contemporary world of the franchise. Set against the backdrop of the freedom struggle, it presented a younger Senapathy and opened a window into the historical circumstances behind the character audiences have known for decades. The glimpse also introduced Kajal Aggarwal in a significant role and featured S. J. Suryah, while its period setting, action and dramatic visuals offered an early indication of the scale and tone of the third chapter.

That period setting is central to the identity of Bharateeyudu 3. The original Indian, known as Bharateeyudu in Telugu, established Senapathy as a former freedom fighter whose uncompromising sense of justice eventually led him to wage a personal war against corruption. The third chapter turns back to the experiences that shaped those convictions, taking the audience deeper into the making of the man behind the legend. Director Shankar has previously confirmed that the film contains a substantial period portion, opening up a different dimension of Senapathy’s journey.

The film is now moving into a crucial stage of production, with editing currently underway and the remaining portions of the shoot scheduled to begin in 10 days. A release date announcement is also expected soon, setting up the next major milestone for Bharateeyudu 3.

At the centre of the film is Kamal Haasan as Senapathy, with S. Shankar directing and also providing the story. The screenplay is by S. Shankar, B. Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairamuthu and Lakshmi Saravana Kumar. The film features S. J. Suryah, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Nedumudi Venu, Vivek, Kalidas Jayaram, Gulshan Grover, Samuthirakani, Bobby Simha, Brahmanandam, Zakir Hussain, Piyush Mishra, Guru Somasundaram, Delhi Ganesh, Jayaprakash, Manobala and Ashwini Thangaraj. Anirudh composes the music, Ravi Varman handles cinematography and T. Muthuraj serves as production designer.

Subaskaran Allirajah has emerged as one of the prominent producers of contemporary Indian cinema, with Lyca Productions becoming a force behind ambitious, large-scale filmmaking. From Kaththi and 2.0 to Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan epic, his productions have consistently brought together leading creative talent and stories of remarkable scale. His vision has extended beyond commercial ambition to films that have left a lasting mark on Indian cinema. Bharateeyudu 3 continues that legacy, bringing Kamal Haasan and Shankar together once again under his leadership at Lyca Productions. GKM Tamil Kumaran heads Lyca Productions, while Sundar Raj serves as the Executive Producer, further driving the project’s production.

Titled Indian 3 in Tamil, Hindustani 3 in Hindi and Bharateeyudu 3 in Telugu, the film carries Senapathy’s story into a period that has so far only been glimpsed by audiences. With editing progressing and the remaining shoot approaching, the project is steadily moving towards completion. The next chapter now promises to take audiences deeper into the struggle, sacrifice and experiences that shaped Senapathy, while the release date announcement is set to reveal when this new chapter of the franchise will reach the big screen.
